player safety policy

We, Westcountry Wasps RFC, are committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all our players, coaches, and supporters. The well-being and safety of our members are of utmost importance to us, both on and off the pitch. This Player Safety Policy outlines our commitment to player safety during training sessions, matches, and all interactions within the club.

  1. Safety during Training Sessions and Matches:

Qualified Staff: All training sessions and matches will be conducted under the supervision of qualified coaches trained in first aid and emergency response.

Proper Equipment: Players must wear appropriate safety equipment, including mouthguards, helmets, and pads during training and matches. The club will provide necessary safety equipment and ensure its proper maintenance.

Warm-Up and Cool-Down: Adequate warm-up and cool-down exercises will be incorporated into training sessions and matches to prevent injuries and promote player fitness.

Injury Assessment and Treatment: In the event of injuries, prompt and appropriate medical attention will be provided. An injury assessment protocol will be in place, and injured players will receive proper treatment and rehabilitation support.

  1. Safe and Inclusive Space:

Respectful Environment: All members of the club, including players, coaches, officials, and supporters, are expected to treat each other with respect and dignity. Discrimination, harassment, and bullying will not be tolerated.

Inclusivity: We are committed to providing an inclusive space for players of all genders, abilities, backgrounds, and identities. Discrimination on the basis of gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, or any other factor will not be tolerated.

Anti-Bullying: The club has a strict anti-bullying policy. Any form of bullying, whether online or offline, will be dealt with seriously. Support will be provided to victims, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against the perpetrators.

Reporting Mechanism: A confidential reporting mechanism will be established, allowing players and members to report any safety concerns, incidents, or violations of this policy. Reports will be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate action will be taken.

  1. Off-Pitch Safety:

Code of Conduct: A code of conduct will be established for all members, outlining expected behaviour both within and outside the club premises. Violations of the code of conduct may result in disciplinary actions.

Safe Transportation: The club will encourage safe transportation practices, especially for young players, ensuring they have safe means of getting to and from training sessions and matches.

Alcohol and Substance Abuse: The consumption of alcohol and illegal substances is strictly prohibited for players under the legal age. Players above the legal age are expected to consume responsibly and ensure they are fit to participate in training sessions and matches.

By being a part of Westcountry Wasps RFC, all members agree to abide by this Player Safety Policy. We are dedicated to fostering a culture of safety, respect, and inclusivity within our club.
